HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES – Ongerup Townsite
Residents and visitors of Ongerup are advised that members of the Local Bushfire Brigade will be burning piles of timber debris in areas around Ongerup.
PURPOSE: To commence with the pile burning inside low fuel buffer zones around assets within the town sites to reduce the potential for a bushfire impacting the town.
Volunteers from Ongerup Bush Fire Brigade and the Shire will be conducting hazard reduction burns. Exact timing of these burns will be dependent on the direction and strength of winds.
DATE: Beginning Sunday, 1st September 2024 for a period of approximately 2 weeks.
LOCATION: Only the piles within treatment areas below will be burnt. The entire areas WILL NOT be burnt.
WHAT TO DO DURING AND AFTER HAZARD REDUCTION ACTIVITIES:
- Motorists are asked to have their headlights on when driving through the area and drive to the conditions as the smoke hazard will remain for several days after the burn is completed.
- Abide by all directions of Fire Fighters/Emergency Services personnel on scene.
- Smoke may affect visibility and air quality in and around Ongerup on the day and the days following. Residents and visitors with any respiratory conditions are reminded to have their medication close by or on them as a precaution.
- Fire Fighters will be conducting patrols of the treatment areas in the days following each prescribed burn.
If you have any concerns or require further information, please contact the Shire of Gnowangerup on 08 9827 1007.
