More Housing Choice For Gnowangerup
- LandCorp to create three medium density housing sites in Gnowangerup town
- The project is being progressed under LandCorp’s Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP)
- Regional contractor JAK Civil to commence civil works in April
LandCorp today announced work will begin shortly on delivering three new medium density housing sites to the town of Gnowangerup.
The development has been made possible under the Regional Development Assistance Program (RDAP), a LandCorp initiative funded by the State Government to stimulate community, social and economic growth in regional Western Australia.
LandCorp General Manager Regional, Stuart Nahajski said the creation of the three medium density housing lots will help to meet demand in the growing Great Southern town by providing diversity of housing choice for families, couples and singles.
“Gnowangerup is a thriving town with an economy based heavily on agriculture and a steadily growing manufacturing industry that supports agricultural activities. However the town does not currently have a supply of group or multiple residential lots that can offer 1 and 2+ bedroom accommodation for the workers who are vital to support business growth” Mr Nahajski said.
“This is a terrific example of why we established the RDAP initiative. Although there is an established need for accommodation, the private sector is not active in the delivery of land in the town. And that’s where LandCorp can help.”
The three lots being developed are within a parcel of land located on Quinn Street, between Corbett Street and Whitehead Road, near the centre of town.
The Shire of Gnowangerup identified that this land was suitable for rezoning for medium density housing and approached LandCorp in 2014 requesting the agency consider developing a first stage of the development. The Shire has the option to progress Stage 2 as and when the market requires.
“This is a very successful outcome for the town with LandCorp progressing civil works on the site, supporting local business demand to attract workers with quality accommodation options,”
said Gnowangerup Shire President Keith House.
Regional contractor JAK Civil has been appointed for the civil works, which are due to commence in April 2016.
It is expected the lots, which range from 800sqm to 1,925sqm will be released to market later this year. Developers can register their interest in the sites by contacting the LandCorp sales team on 1300 730 435.
